Because of Costa Rica's small size; one is able to enjoy many different fishing types in only a very short distance from each other. On the Pacific, it's common to release a large number of giants (Sailfish, Marlin,..) in a single day.
Billfish are very popular in Costa Rica, with abundant sailfish and marlin off the Pacific coast with lots of other feisty fighters, such as Wahoo, Dorado, and Roosterfish. On the smaller scale it is very common to catch Snook, Snappers, Tarpons, Guapote, Grouper, Rainbow Bass, Yellowfin Tuna, blue and rainbow runners, and many more. Though deep sea fishing made this country famous for fishing, there is also plenty of fresh water fishing opportunities. Lake Arenal, rivers, channels along the Caribbean Sea, and streams allow any angler to fight with a multitude of smaller fresh water fish.
